ANNA BRENNA
CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing
test to tell Computers and Humans Apart)
"It's all real… it's all true… there's nothing invented, nothing you see in the show is fake… it's just controlled."
The quote (The Truman Show) reflects what for me is the essence of the project, in which the truth appears manipulated and controlled, but never completely hidden.
The images want to show the duality of Chinese metropolises: cutting-edge, modern and technological cities, but also full of contradictions and disturbing details, which create a feeling of unease under a surface of apparent normality, balanced between the present and an imagined future.
Each photograph presents a seemingly perfect and harmonious scene, but hides a disturbing detail that escapes control, a surreal atmosphere, which invites the viewer to discover the hidden side of reality.
The disturbing details are inserted to seem out of place, but not immediately visible. These details escape at first glance, requiring a deeper and more careful reflection on the part of the viewer.
"Captcha" addresses themes such as social control, the perception of reality and the tension between appearance and truth. In a world where technology and constant monitoring influence every aspect of life, what does it really mean to be free? What are the limits between what is real and what is controlled? This photographic project invites us to question these questions, revealing the fragility of our perception and the complexity of modern reality.
